Laura Linney's performance of weak, yet strong characters has made her one of the top American actors. Her father was a renowned playwright, but Linney was raised as an only child by a single mom who was a nurse. Through the summer months, while with her dad, Linney developed a passion for the theatre. She eventually studied acting initially through Brown University then at Juilliard School. She began her Broadway career soon after completing her degree in the year 2000, before making her television debut the following year. Innumerable appearances in film, TV as well as stage productions ever since. Her achievements have been numerous throughout her career including the four Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. In spite of the array of awards, theatre has remained her first love and she continues to perform both on stage and screen.
